The moist cake is made with butter, sugar, and a splash of caramel, then topped with a creamy condensed milk glaze and crunchy walnuts. This cake is sure to wow your friends and family, making every bite a little slice of heaven. Let’s get baking!

Tips for Success

Ensure that the butter is at room temperature before creaming it with sugar for the cake. This will help incorporate more air into the mixture, resulting in a lighter and fluffier cake.

When adding the liquid caramel to the cake batter, make sure it is not too hot. Hot caramel can cause the butter to melt and negatively affect the texture of the cake.

For the topping, avoid using too much oil when mixing with the condensed milk and caramel, as it can make the topping greasy. Stick to the recommended 1 teaspoon for the right consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I substitute for butter in this amazing caramel and walnut cake recipe?

You can substitute butter with an equal amount of margarine or a plant-based butter alternative. For a healthier option, use unsweetened applesauce, but reduce the amount to 3/4 cup.

How should I store the leftover cake?

Store the leftover caramel and walnut cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you want to keep it longer, refrigerate it, where it can last up to a week. Make sure to allow it to come to room temperature before serving.

Why did my cake not rise properly?

There could be a few reasons for this: check that your baking powder is fresh, ensure you're using the correct measurements, and confirm that the oven is preheated to the right temperature before baking. Overmixing the batter can also cause a dense cake, so mix just until combined.

Recommended Drink Pairings

  • Coffee: The rich, bold flavor of coffee complements the sweetness of the caramel and balances the cake's richness.
  • Chardonnay: A lightly oaked Chardonnay offers a crisp acidity that cuts through the sweetness of the cake.
  • Sparkling Water: The effervescence refreshes the palate and enhances the cake's flavors without adding sweetness.
  • Port Wine: The sweetness and depth of port wine pair beautifully with the caramel and walnuts.
  • Green Tea: The earthy notes of green tea provide a nice contrast to the cake's sweetness and add a refreshing element.
