  2. Grease a pyrex baking dish with butter and sprinkle with sugar.
  3. Clean, peel and slice the apples.

  11. Let it cool completely inside the oven before serving.

Recipe Tips

To prevent your apples from browning before you add them to the batter, toss them in a little lemon juice immediately after peeling and slicing. This will keep them fresh and visually appealing in your cake.
For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of cinnamon or nutmeg to your dry ingredients. This will complement the sweetness of the apples and caramel, enhancing the overall taste of your cake.
A common mistake is overmixing the batter once the flour is added. Mix just until you see no dry flour to avoid a dense cake. A few lumps are perfectly fine, and this will help keep the cake moist and tender.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute the apples with another type of fruit?

Yes, you can substitute apples with other fruits like pears or peaches. However, keep in mind that the texture and moisture content may vary, which could affect the overall flavor and moisture of the cake.

How should I store the leftover apple caramel cake?

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If you plan to keep it longer, you can freeze the cake for up to 2 months, making sure to wrap it tightly to prevent freezer burn.

What should I do if my cake is too dry after baking?

If your cake turns out dry, it may be due to overbaking or not enough liquid. To remedy this, consider adding a simple syrup (made from equal parts sugar and water) to the cake once it cools, or serve it with whipped cream or ice cream to add moisture.

Recommended Drink Pairings

Wine

Portuguese: Vinho Verde - This light and slightly effervescent wine complements the sweetness of the caramel and apples beautifully.

General: Riesling - A medium-sweet Riesling enhances the dessert's flavors while balancing the richness of the caramel.

Beer

Portuguese: Super Bock - This pale lager offers a crisp, refreshing contrast to the sweet and rich cake.

General: Amber Ale - The caramel and malt notes in an amber ale pair nicely with the cake's flavors, accentuating the caramel aspect.

Other Beverages

Espresso: A shot of espresso provides a bold contrast to the sweetness of the cake, enhancing its flavor profile.
