Recipe Tips

When whipping the eggs and sugar, make sure to beat them until they are light and fluffy, which can take about 5-7 minutes. This incorporates air into the mixture, giving the cake a lighter texture.
To enhance the flavor of the walnuts, toast them in a dry skillet over medium heat for 5-7 minutes before adding them to the batter. This will bring out their natural oils and deepen their flavor.
Avoid overmixing the batter once you've added the flour or crushed biscuits. Overmixing can lead to a dense cake. Mix just until combined for a lighter texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute the walnuts in this recipe with another type of nut?

Yes, you can substitute walnuts with pecans, almonds, or hazelnuts depending on your preference. Just ensure you chop them finely so they blend well into the batter.

How should I store the walnut cake once it's made?

Store the walnut cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you want to keep it fresh longer, you can refrigerate it for up to a week or freeze it for up to 3 months. Just make sure it’s well-wrapped to prevent freezer burn.

What should I do if my cake layers are too dense?

If your cake layers turn out too dense, make sure you are not over-mixing the batter after adding the egg whites. Gently fold the egg whites into the yolk mixture to maintain volume. Also, check that your baking powder or baking soda is fresh and the oven temperature is accurate.
