Tips for Success

Ensure you soak the salt cod in cold water for at least 24 hours prior to cooking. Change the water several times during this period to reduce the saltiness and to fully rehydrate the fish.

When preparing the cream sauce, whisk the flour in a little bit of the cold milk first to create a smooth paste before adding the rest of the milk. This prevents lumps from forming in your sauce.

Avoid overcooking the potatoes; they should be just tender when you layer them in the casserole. If they are too soft, they will break apart and make the casserole mushy instead of maintaining distinct layers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use fresh codfish instead of salt cod for this delicious creamy codfish casserole recipe?
