Recipe Tips

When sautéing the onions and bell peppers, cook them until they are soft and translucent before adding the garlic. This will enhance the overall flavor of the stew and prevent the garlic from burning.
Consider adding a splash of white wine (about 1/2 cup) after the vegetables are sautéed and before adding the diced tomatoes. This will add depth and acidity to the stew, balancing the flavors perfectly.
Avoid overcooking the fish by adding it to the stew only in the last 5-7 minutes of cooking. This will ensure it remains tender and flaky rather than becoming tough and rubbery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I substitute for striped bass in this stew?

You can use other firm white fish like cod, haddock, or tilapia as a substitute for striped bass. These fish will hold up well in the stew and provide a similar texture.

How should I store leftovers of this fish stew?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, warm gently on the stove over low heat, adding a splash of water or broth to prevent sticking.

What can I do if the stew is too watery?

If your stew turns out too watery, you can let it simmer uncovered for an additional 5-10 minutes to allow some liquid to evaporate. Alternatively, you can add a small amount of cornstarch mixed with water to thicken the stew.

Recommended Drink Pairings
