Tips for Success

Ensure the squid is cleaned properly before grilling. Remove the ink sac, quill, and skin to prevent any undesired flavors and textures. Rinse thoroughly under cold water.

When grilling squid, cook it quickly over high heat for 2-3 minutes per side. Overcooking can make the squid tough and rubbery. Look for a slight char and a firm texture.

For a flavor boost, consider marinating the cleaned squid in a mixture of olive oil, minced garlic, and lemon juice for 30 minutes before grilling. This adds depth to the dish and enhances the overall taste.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I substitute for melted butter in the butter sauce?

You can substitute olive oil or a dairy-free margarine if you're looking for a lighter option or a dairy-free alternative. Keep in mind that the flavor profile will change slightly.

How should I store leftover grilled squid?

Store leftover grilled squid in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in a skillet or microwave, but be careful not to overcook as it can become tough.

What should I do if my squid is tough after grilling?

If your squid turns out tough, it may have been overcooked. For next time, ensure you grill it for only a few minutes on each side until just cooked through. Also, tenderizing the squid by scoring it or marinating it longer may help achieve a more tender texture.

Recommended Drink Pairings

  • Sauvignon Blanc: This white wine's acidity complements the richness of the butter and the freshness of the squid.
  • Pinot Grigio: A light and crisp option that enhances the seafood's natural flavors without overpowering them.
  • Sparkling Water: The effervescence cleanses the palate and balances the buttery sauce.
  • Chardonnay: A lightly oaked Chardonnay pairs well with the buttery notes while adding a touch of creaminess.
  • Green Tea: Its subtle earthiness and slight bitterness contrast nicely with the richness of the dish.
  • Ginger Ale: The sweetness and spice of ginger ale provide a refreshing contrast to the savory squid.

Hi Leslie, many Portuguese dishes use coriander, but you can always use parsley instead.
