With all your ingredients and equipment gathered, you are ready to get started!

Directions

  1. Chop the boiled egg, and mix both the egg and chouriço with the tomato sauce and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Cut the pastry sheets into squares (or desired size) and put a little filling inside each square, without it reaching the edges, so that it can be moistened with some  water, then join the tips.
  3. Brush with the beaten egg and bake at 180°C or 350°F until golden brown.

P.S. You can make the filling with any meat or seafood.

Recipe Tips

Make sure to roll out the puff pastry sheets slightly before cutting them into squares. This will help them puff up better in the oven and create a flakier texture.
When mixing the shredded chouriço and boiled egg, ensure the mixture is not too wet. If it is, the puff pastry can become soggy. You can add a small amount of breadcrumbs to absorb excess moisture if needed.
Avoid overfilling the pastry puffs with the chouriço mixture; otherwise, they may burst open while baking. A tablespoon of filling per pastry square should be sufficient.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of sausage instead of chouriço?

Yes, you can substitute chouriço with other types of sausage such as chorizo, kielbasa, or any cooked sausage of your choice. Just ensure that it is seasoned well and fully cooked before using it in the recipe.

What is the best way to store leftover pastry puffs?

To store leftovers, allow the pastry puffs to cool completely, then place them in an airtight container. They can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 1 month. Reheat in an oven to maintain the crispiness.

What should I do if my pastry puffs are not rising properly in the oven?

If your pastry puffs are not rising as expected, ensure that your puff pastry is thawed properly and that the oven is preheated to the correct temperature before baking. If using refrigerated puff pastry, let it sit at room temperature briefly to allow for better expansion.

This sounds wonderful, but I wouldn't include the chopped egg, and would just use the chopped chourico with a little bit of its own juice.
