Recipe Tips

To enhance the flavor of the rice, toast it in a bit of olive oil for 2-3 minutes before adding water. This technique adds a nutty aroma and depth to the dish.
When adding kale, consider using it towards the end of the cooking process to maintain its vibrant color and nutrients. Add it during the last 5-7 minutes of cooking to ensure it wilts but doesn't become overly soft.
Avoid overcooking the rice by following the rice-to-water ratio closely. For 1 1/4 cups of rice, 3 cups of water is ideal, but always check the rice package instructions, as different rice varieties may require slight adjustments in water.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I substitute for the French leek in this recipe?

You can substitute the French leek with green onions (scallions) or half of a regular onion. If neither is available, shallots can also work as a good alternative for similar flavors.

How should I store leftovers of the kale rice?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It can last for up to 3-4 days. To reheat, add a splash of water to the rice and warm it in a pan or microwave to keep it from drying out.

What should I do if my rice is undercooked after following the recipe?

If the rice is undercooked, add a bit more water (around 1/4 cup) and cover the pan. Allow it to cook on low heat until the rice absorbs the additional water and becomes tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
