  4. Place all on a baking sheet and bake  for 10 minutes then turn and bake for another 10 minutes.

Recipe Tips

Cut the bacon strips in half before wrapping them around the dates. This will ensure that each date is fully covered and allows for a crispier texture, as shorter strips will cook more evenly.
For an extra flavor boost, consider stuffing the pitted dates with cream cheese or goat cheese before wrapping them in bacon. You can also add a sprinkle of chopped nuts or herbs for added texture and flavor.
Avoid overcrowding the baking sheet when placing the wrapped dates. Leave enough space between each piece to allow for even cooking and crisping of the bacon. If necessary, use two baking sheets or cook in batches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of bacon for this recipe?

Yes, you can use turkey bacon or even prosciutto instead of traditional pork bacon. However, cooking times may vary, and turkey bacon might not get as crispy as pork bacon.

How can I store leftovers from this recipe?

Leftover bacon-wrapped dates can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place them in the oven at 175°C (350°F) for about 10 minutes until heated through.

What can I do if the bacon is not crispy after baking?

If the bacon isn't as crispy as you'd like after the initial baking time, you can increase the temperature to 220°C (425°F) and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or broil them for a couple of minutes watching closely to prevent burning.

Recommended Drink Pairings

Wine

Portuguese: Madeira - The rich, sweet flavors of Madeira complement the caramelized sweetness of dates and the savory notes of bacon.

General: Zinfandel - A fruity Zinfandel enhances the sweetness of the dates while balancing the saltiness of the bacon.

Beer

Portuguese: Super Bock - This pale lager has a crisp and refreshing taste that cuts through the richness of the bacon.

General: Amber Ale - The maltiness of an amber ale pairs well with the sweet and savory elements of the dish.

Other Beverages

Espresso: A shot of espresso provides a bold coffee flavor that contrasts beautifully with the sweetness of the dates.
