Why You Will Love This Recipe

Get ready to whip up some delicious portuguese batatas assadas! These roasted potatoes are packed with flavor and have a fantastic texture. No need to peel them, just toss them in the oven with garlic and paprika for a tasty side dish that will impress everyone at your dinner table. Say goodbye to boring sides and hello to a new favorite!

Tips for Success

Before baking, ensure that the parisienne potatoes are evenly coated in olive oil and spices. This will help them cook uniformly and absorb more flavor. Consider tossing them in a bowl to mix thoroughly before placing them on the baking tray.

To achieve extra crispy potatoes, preheat the baking tray with olive oil in the oven for about 10 minutes before adding the potatoes. This will give them a nice sear as they hit the hot surface.

Avoid overcrowding the baking tray when arranging the potatoes. If they are too close together, they will steam instead of roast, resulting in a less crispy texture. Use two trays if necessary to keep them spaced out.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I use as a substitute for parisienne potatoes?

If you can't find parisienne potatoes, you can substitute them with small new potatoes or baby Yukon Gold potatoes. Just make sure to adjust the cooking time if the potatoes are larger.

How do I store leftover baked potatoes?

Store any leftover baked potatoes in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. To reheat, bake them in the oven until warmed through or microwave them for a quicker option.

What should I do if my potatoes are not crispy after baking?

If your potatoes aren't crispy, ensure they are evenly coated with oil and spices before baking, and consider increasing the oven temperature to 200°C (400°F) for the last 10-15 minutes of cooking to help crisp them up.

Recommended Drink Pairings

  • Vinho Verde: This light and refreshing Portuguese wine complements the potatoes' texture and enhances the dish's flavors.
  • Chardonnay: A lightly oaked Chardonnay offers a creamy mouthfeel that pairs well with the richness of olive oil and spices.
  • Sparkling Water: The effervescence cleanses the palate, making it a great non-alcoholic option alongside the savory potatoes.
  • Herbal Tea: A mild herbal tea, such as chamomile, provides a soothing contrast to the savory spices in the dish.
  • Ginger Ale: The sweetness and spice of ginger ale complement the garlic and paprika, adding a refreshing touch.

How much of the "Portuguese Ingredients" or Piri Piri? Or is the combination of garlic salt/paprika/dried oregano, etc. what makes it?

This recipe is amazing! I made it for 35 people - used russet potatoes and a very large pan and cooked them on the bbq. Received rave reviews and there were hardly any left overs!!! This is a keeper!

You can save a lot of time if you boil the potatoes so that they are cooked through but not mushy. I usually use cubed potato and that takes about 12 min of boiling before being drained and the spices added. Then you can roast them until you like the crispiness or crust.

These should work really well in our air fryer ( most things do!). I used to make Parisienne potatoes years ago using a special tool which would cut the small spheres from larger potatoes. Cubes would definitely be much easier!

Anna, you can use any potatoes but white russets work well, what we do here at home is we cut the potatoes into small cubes (about an inch each), we don't always buy the small round potatoes because most super markets only have them canned and it can get expensive.

Something you buy Maria, you should be able to find it at a major grocer, but if you don't you can get it online.

I made these for a small dinner party, everyone raved about them. I used the wacky shaped scraps to make Lyonaise style which would reheat well.
