Directions

  1. Rinse the cod fish under cold running water to remove surface salt. Place the pieces of cod in a large plastic dish or bowl, cover with water and refrigerate it for 24 hours, change the water several times.
  2. Drain the water, remove the bones and skin from the cod, cut it into thick strips and place it in a bowl. Season the cod with lemon juice, chopped garlic, ground pepper and the milk. Let it marinade for about an hour.
  3. Remove the cod from the marinade, drain it, dip it into flour and deep-fry the cod pieces in hot oil,  then drain the fish on absorbent paper to remove excess fat and set aside.
  4. Meanwhile, boil the vegetables in a pan with water and salt to taste.
  5. Place the vegetables in the center of a platter, surround with the fried cod, and drizzle it with melted butter and lemon juice.

Recipe Tips

When preparing the cod, make sure to pat the fillets dry with a paper towel before coating them in flour. This helps the flour adhere better and creates a crispier crust when frying.
To enhance the flavor of the vegetables, sauté the minced garlic in the melted butter before adding the carrots, leeks, green beans, and sprouts. This will infuse the oil with garlic flavor, making the vegetables tastier.
Avoid overcooking the cod fillets by frying them only for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and easily flake with a fork. Overcooking can lead to dry, tough fish.

What should I do if the cod is overcooked and dry?

If the cod turns out dry, try serving it with a sauce, such as a garlic butter sauce or a squeeze of extra lemon juice, which can help to add moisture and enhance flavor. Additionally, consider cooking at a lower temperature or for a shorter time next time.
