Recipe Tips

When cooking the shrimp, avoid overcooking them. They should only take 2-3 minutes to turn pink and opaque; overcooked shrimp can become rubbery. Remove them from the heat as soon as they are done.
For added depth of flavor, consider sautéing the minced onion and garlic in the olive oil before adding the cooking water and shrimp. This will create a fragrant base for your soup and enhance the overall taste.
Be cautious with the salt; the shrimp and bread may already contain some natural saltiness. Start with a smaller amount, taste the soup after adding the shrimp and bread, and adjust the seasoning accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I use in place of coriander if I don't have any?

If you don't have fresh coriander, you can substitute it with fresh parsley for a similar flavor profile. Alternatively, if you want to maintain a slightly different taste, try using fresh basil or even a pinch of dried coriander.

How should I store leftovers of this shrimp and bread soup?

To store leftovers, allow the soup to cool to room temperature, then transfer it to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For longer storage, you can freeze the soup for up to 2 months. When reheating, add a little water if the soup has thickened.

What can I do if my soup is too salty?

If your soup turns out too salty, you can balance the flavor by adding additional water or a bit of unsalted broth. To absorb excess salt, you might also add a small peeled potato while cooking, then remove it before serving.

Recommended Drink Pairings

Beer

Portuguese: Super Bock - This pale lager's lightness and mild bitterness make it a refreshing match for the hearty shrimp soup.

General: Pilsner - The crisp and clean profile of a Pilsner provides a nice contrast to the dish's richness and enhances its seafood flavors.

Other Beverages
