Recipe Tips

Ensure that the clams are thoroughly cleaned before cooking. Soak them in salted water for at least 30 minutes to help release any sand, then rinse well under cold water. This will enhance the final dish by ensuring it's free of grit.
When adding the garlic, consider mincing it finely or slicing it thinly for a more intense flavor release during cooking. Avoid browning the garlic too much, as burnt garlic can impart a bitter taste to the dish.
For a richer depth of flavor, you can substitute half of the white wine with seafood stock or chicken broth. This will complement the clams beautifully, while also enhancing the overall taste of the broth.

Yes, you can substitute Littleneck clams with other types of clams like Manila or Cockle clams. Alternatively, you can use mussels or shrimp if you're looking for a different seafood option, but keep in mind that cooking times may vary.

How should I store leftover Bulhão Pato with Littleneck clams?

Leftover Bulhão Pato should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consumed within 1 to 2 days. Reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave, but be careful not to overcook the clams to maintain their texture.
