  4. Grease and dust with flour a 9x11 inch baking dish.
  5. Add the batter to the dish and bake for 50 minutes to an hour.

Recipe Tips

For a richer flavor, try soaking the Portuguese buns in the brewed coffee for at least 30 minutes before mixing them with the other ingredients. This will enhance the coffee flavor throughout the pudding.
Avoid overmixing the batter after adding the eggs, as this can lead to a dense texture. Mix just until the ingredients are combined to keep the pudding light and airy.
If you prefer a more complex flavor profile, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or vanilla extract to the mixture. This will enhance the overall taste without overpowering the chocolate and coffee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute the Portuguese buns with another type of bread?

Yes, you can substitute the Portuguese buns with other types of bread like challah, brioche, or even day-old bagels. Just ensure the bread is slightly stale to absorb the liquid better.

How should I store leftover chocolate bread pudding?

To store leftover chocolate bread pudding, let it cool completely, then cover it tightly with plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. You can reheat individual portions in the microwave or the oven.

What do I do if my pudding turns out too dry?

If your chocolate bread pudding turns out too dry, it may be due to using bread that was too stale or overbaking. To prevent dryness, ensure that the bread is soaked sufficiently in the coffee and the batter is moist before baking. If you encounter dryness, consider serving it with a sauce, cream, or ice cream to add moisture.
