Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute the Port wine with another type of alcohol or a non-alcoholic option?

Yes, you can substitute the Port wine with a fruit-based wine, such as cherry or raspberry wine, for a different flavor profile. For a non-alcoholic option, consider using grape juice or apple juice, though the flavor will be different.

How should I store the pumpkin jam once it's in jars?

Store the sealed jars of pumpkin jam in a cool, dark place such as a pantry or cupboard. Once opened, keep the jam in the refrigerator and consume it within 2-3 weeks.

What can I do if my pumpkin jam isn't thickening as expected?

If your pumpkin jam isn't thickening, continue to simmer it on low heat while stirring frequently. You can also add a teaspoon of pectin to help it set. If the jam is still too runny, you may need to process it longer to evaporate more moisture.

Recommended Drink Pairings

Beer

Portuguese: Super Bock - This lager's light and crisp profile balances the sweetness of the jam without overwhelming it.

General: Pumpkin Ale - The spices and pumpkin flavors in this beer harmonize with the ingredients in the jam, creating a perfect pairing.

Other Beverages

Spiced Chai Tea: The warming spices in chai enhance the cinnamon and orange zest in the pumpkin jam, making for a comforting combination.
