Recipe Tips

Make sure to devein and peel the shrimp before cooking to enhance flavor and texture. Leaving the shells on can lead to a gritty or unpleasant bite.
When sautéing the garlic, avoid burning it by cooking on medium heat and stirring frequently. Burnt garlic can impart a bitter taste to the dish.
Add the whiskey after the garlic is fragrant but before it browns. This will allow the alcohol to cook off while infusing the shrimp with flavor without the risk of bitterness from overcooked garlic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute whiskey with another alcohol or non-alcoholic ingredient?

Yes, you can substitute whiskey with other spirits like rum or bourbon for a different flavor profile. If you prefer a non-alcoholic option, use chicken broth or apple cider vinegar mixed with a splash of water.

How should I store leftover shrimp with garlic and whisky?

Store leftover shrimp in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. To reheat, warm them gently in a frying pan over low heat to avoid overcooking.

What should I do if the shrimp are overcooked and rubbery?

If you find the shrimp have become rubbery, it's often because they were cooked too long. In the future, ensure you cook shrimp just until they turn pink and opaque, typically about 2-3 minutes per side, depending on size.
