Frequently Asked Questions

What can I substitute for chouriço in this stew?

If you don't have chouriço, you can substitute it with another type of smoked sausage like Spanish chorizo or even kielbasa for a similar flavor profile. If you prefer a less spicy option, you could use a regular pork sausage.

How do I store leftover beef stew?

After cooling down, store leftover beef stew in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. You can also freeze it for up to 3 months. To reheat, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and warm on the stove over low heat until heated throughout.

What should I do if my stew is too thick?

If your stew is too thick, you can add additional water or beef broth little by little, stirring well until you reach your desired consistency. Ensure to taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.

Recommended Drink Pairings

Wine

Portuguese: Douro Red - This wine's robust profile complements the hearty flavors of the beef and vegetables in the stew.

General: Cabernet Sauvignon - A classic choice, its bold tannins and dark fruit notes enhance the richness of the dish.

Beer

Portuguese: Super Bock - This lager's crispness balances the stew's savory flavors without overwhelming them.

General: Amber Ale - Its malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness provide a nice contrast to the hearty ingredients of the stew.

Other Beverages

Coffee: A rich dark roast coffee can add a warm, comforting note that pairs well with the savory stew.
