Preparation

  1. Start by cooking the cod in the milk.
  2. Peel the potatoes, cut them into cubes (not to big nor to small) and fry them.
  3. Once the cod is cooked, remove the cod from the milk, place the milk aside, remove the skin and bones from the cod and shred it using your hands.
  4. In a large pot, put the olive oil and onions cut into slices and cook until the onion is translucent.
  5. Add the shredded cod and stir.
  6. Add the flour, stirring constantly and add the cooking milk (enough to cover the cod) stir some more and remove from the heat.
  7. Add the fried potatoes to this mix, also add half of the cream, some grated cheese (to taste) and mix everything well.
  8. Add the mix to a pirex dish greased with butter, pour the rest of the cream over the top, stir with a fork and sprinkle grated cheese (to taste) on top.
  9. Bake for about 20 minutes at 180°C or 350°F.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve with a salad.

Hi Eddy, I have been living in the US for a while (long time follower!) and I was wondering where you purchase the cod from? Is this recipe using salted cod? (If using fresh fillets, what have you done to try to reproduce the salty taste?) Thank you so much!!

Hi Ana, I don't live in the US, but I do know you can get it from a couple of places online like "Portugaliamarketplace.com" and "Shopportuguese.com". If you however want to use fresh cod you can as well.
