Recipe Tips

Ensure that your baking powder is fresh; expired baking powder can lead to flat biscuits. To test, add a teaspoon of baking powder to a small amount of hot water – it should fizz vigorously.
For added flavor depth, consider incorporating a teaspoon of vanilla extract or a pinch of cinnamon into the dough. This can enhance the overall taste of your orange biscuits.
Avoid overmixing the dough once you combine the wet and dry ingredients. Overmixing can develop gluten and result in tough biscuits. Mix until just combined for a lighter, fluffier texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute the orange juice with another liquid?

Yes, you can substitute the orange juice with another citrus juice like lemon or lime juice for a different flavor. Alternatively, you could use an unsweetened apple juice, but keep in mind that the flavor will change slightly.

How should I store leftover biscuits?

Store leftover orange biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, you can freeze them in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. Just make sure to allow them to cool completely before freezing.

What should I do if the dough is too sticky?

If the dough feels too sticky, you can add a little extra flour, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches a more manageable consistency. Be careful not to add too much flour, as it can result in dense biscuits.
