Recipe Tips

Ensure that the ground almonds are finely ground for a smoother texture in the dessert. If they are too coarse, the dessert may end up grainy.
When adding the lemon zest, use only the yellow part of the peel and avoid the white pith, as it can impart a bitter flavor to the dessert.
Be cautious with the sugar measurements: double-check that '6 tablespoons of sugar' is correctly interpreted as an addition to the '1 cup of sugar' rather than a typo; otherwise, the dessert may be overly sweet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute ground almonds with almond flour or another nut flour?

Yes, you can substitute ground almonds with almond flour as they are essentially the same thing. However, other nut flours like hazelnut flour may alter the flavor and texture of the dessert.

How should I store the almond dessert once it's baked?

After baking, allow the almond dessert to cool completely before covering it with plastic wrap or placing it in an airtight container. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

What should I do if my egg whites don’t whip up properly?

Ensure that your bowl and whisk are completely clean and free from any grease or yolk. If the egg whites still don't whip up, you can add a pinch of cream of tartar or lemon juice to help stabilize them.

Recommended Drink Pairings

Beer

Portuguese: Super Bock - This lager has a mild flavor that won't overpower the dessert while providing a refreshing contrast to its sweetness.

General: Wheat Beer - A light, slightly fruity wheat beer can pair well with the dessert, balancing its richness with a refreshing touch.

Other Beverages
