Recipe Tips

When mixing the cheese and sugar, ensure to blend them until completely smooth to avoid any lumps in your flan. Using a food processor can help achieve a creamy consistency.
For a richer flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract or a pinch of nutmeg to the mixture before baking. This will complement the cheese and enhance the overall taste of the flan.
Avoid overbeating the egg whites; they should be whipped to soft peaks before folding them into the cheese mixture. Overbeating can cause the flan to be too airy and may result in a less dense texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of cheese instead of goat cheese?

Yes, you can substitute goat cheese with fresh cheese like queijo fresco, ricotta, or even cream cheese. Each cheese will slightly alter the flavor and texture, but they can all work well in this recipe.

How do I store leftover cheese flan?

Store any leftover cheese flan in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should last for up to 3-5 days. You can also freeze it for longer storage, but be aware that the texture may change slightly upon thawing.

What should I do if the flan is not setting properly in the oven?

If the flan is not setting properly, it may need additional baking time. Keep an eye on it, and check for doneness by inserting a toothpick; it should come out clean. If it looks too liquidy, you can return it to the oven for a few more minutes.

Recommended Drink Pairings

Wine

Portuguese: Madeira Wine - This fortified wine's rich, caramel notes complement the sweetness of the flan beautifully.

General: Late Harvest Riesling - The natural sweetness and acidity of a Late Harvest Riesling enhance the flavors of the cheese while balancing the dish's richness.

Beer

Portuguese: Super Bock - This popular lager has a light body and crisp finish that can refresh the palate between bites of the rich cheese flan.

General: Belgian Witbier - The citrus and spice notes in a Belgian Witbier provide a nice contrast to the creamy texture of the flan.

Other Beverages

Coffee: A rich espresso or a creamy cappuccino offers a delightful contrast to the sweetness of the flan, enhancing the overall dessert experience.
