Recipe Tips

For a crispier crust, preheat your pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven at 475°F (245°C) for at least 30 minutes before placing the pizza on it. This will help to create a nice, golden bottom crust.
To enhance the flavor of your tomato sauce, consider adding a pinch of garlic powder, a splash of olive oil, and a teaspoon of balsamic vinegar to the sauce before spreading it on the dough. This will add depth and richness to the pizza.
Avoid overworking the dough when mixing in the flour and other ingredients. Over-kneading can lead to a tough crust. Mix until just combined and then let it rest for about 10 minutes before shaping it to allow the gluten to relax.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute the wheat flour with a gluten-free alternative?

Yes, you can substitute wheat flour with a gluten-free flour blend. However, be sure to check if the flour blend contains a binding agent like xanthan gum, which is often needed in gluten-free baking to help the pizza dough hold together.

How should I store leftover pizza?

Store any leftover pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also wrap individual slices tightly in plastic wrap and then in aluminum foil for extra protection.

What can I do if my pizza dough is too sticky?

If your pizza dough is too sticky, you can gradually add a little bit more flour, a tablespoon at a time, while kneading until the dough is workable. Alternatively, lightly flour your hands and the surface while shaping the dough.

Recommended Drink Pairings

Wine

Portuguese: Vinho Verde - This light and refreshing wine complements the acidity of the tomatoes and the richness of the cheese beautifully.

General: Chianti - A classic Italian red that pairs well with pizza, enhancing the flavors of the tomato sauce and cheese.

Beer

Portuguese: Super Bock - This lager is crisp and refreshing, balancing the richness of the cheese while complementing the savory toppings.

General: Pale Ale - The hoppy and slightly bitter notes of a pale ale can cut through the cheese's richness and enhance the overall flavor experience.

Other Beverages

Sparkling Water: The effervescence of sparkling water can cleanse the palate between bites, enhancing the flavors of the pizza.
