  2. Let it boil for about 15 minutes.
  3. Cut the bread in very fine slices and add a small quantity of boiling water to form a paste.
  4. Add this paste to the pan carefully (make sure it doesn't have lumps), add the nuts and the raisins.
  5. Boil for 5 minutes, or until it forms into smooth paste, while continuing to stir.
  6. Put in a plate and, when cold, draw some christmas motifs with cinnamon.

Recipe Tips

When adding the honey to the mixture, heat the water first before incorporating the honey. This will help it dissolve more easily and evenly, preventing clumping.
To enhance the flavor, toast the pinenuts, almonds, and walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for a few minutes until golden brown. This will bring out their natural oils and deepen the nutty flavors in your Mexidos.
Avoid using fresh bread as it will become mushy in the mixture. Stale bread is essential for this recipe as it absorbs the liquid without disintegrating, giving the dish the right texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I substitute for port wine in this recipe?

If you want to avoid using port wine, you can substitute it with red grape juice or a combination of grape juice and a splash of vinegar to mimic the acidity. For an alcohol-free version, try using non-alcoholic red wine or simply replace it with additional water or fruit juice.

How should I store leftovers of the Richly Sweet Christmas Mexidos?

Leftover Mexidos can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place it in a saucepan over low heat and stir until warmed through. You may need to add a bit of water to loosen the mixture.

What should I do if my bread paste has lumps?

If your bread paste has lumps, you can use a blender or food processor to smooth it out. Alternatively, you can strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove any large lumps before adding it to the pot.
