Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute Port wine with another type of wine or liquid?

Yes, you can substitute Port wine with another fortified wine like Sherry or Madeira for a similar flavor. Alternatively, if you prefer non-alcoholic options, use grape juice or a mixture of non-alcoholic red wine and a splash of vinegar.

How should I store leftover pudding?

Leftover Port Wine & Caramel Pudding should be stored in the refrigerator. Cover it tightly with plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container. It will keep well for up to 3-4 days.

What should I do if the pudding didn't set properly?

If the pudding didn't set, it may not have cooked long enough or at the right temperature. Ensure your water bath maintains a steady simmer during baking. If it remains too runny, you can also try re-baking it for a little longer, checking for a firm consistency.

Recommended Drink Pairings

Wine

Portuguese: Ruby Port - This rich and fruity wine complements the sweetness of the caramel pudding beautifully.

General: Late Bottled Vintage Port - A delightful option that harmonizes with the dessert's flavors, enhancing the caramel notes.

Beer

Portuguese: Super Bock - This lager's light maltiness provides a refreshing contrast to the creamy sweetness of the pudding.

General: Blonde Ale - A balanced blonde ale offers a mild flavor profile that pairs well without overpowering the dessert.

Other Beverages

Coffee: A rich, dark roast coffee enhances the flavors of the pudding, creating a delightful contrast.
