Recipe Tips

When peeling and slicing the apples, try to use a mix of sweet and tart varieties (like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp) to enhance the flavor complexity of the tart.
To achieve a perfectly smooth texture, make sure to thoroughly whisk the eggs and sugar together until light and fluffy before incorporating them into the milk and flour mixture. This will help to incorporate air and create a lighter tart.
Avoid overbaking the tart. Keep an eye on it during the last 10 minutes of baking. The tart should be set but still slightly wobbly in the center, as it will continue to firm up as it cools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of fruit instead of apples?

Yes, you can substitute apples with other fruits such as pears or peaches. Just ensure they have similar moisture content and sweetness to maintain the tart's texture and flavor.

How should I store leftover creamy apple tart?

Store the leftover tart in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep well for up to 2-3 days. To enjoy it later, simply reheat it in the oven for a few minutes to refresh the flavors.

What should I do if my tart is not setting properly after baking?

If the tart isn't setting properly, it may need more time in the oven. Continue baking and perform the toothpick test periodically. If it's still not done after the suggested time, you can lower the oven temperature and extend the baking time to ensure it's cooked through.

Recommended Drink Pairings

Wine

Portuguese: Vinho Verde - This light and refreshing wine complements the sweetness of the apples while balancing the creaminess of the tart.

General: Riesling - A slightly sweet Riesling enhances the fruity notes of the tart and provides a nice acidity to cut through the richness.

Beer

Portuguese: Super Bock - This pilsner-style lager has a crisp finish that contrasts nicely with the creamy texture of the tart.

General: Pale Ale - A balanced pale ale offers a hoppy bitterness that can complement the sweetness of the dessert without overpowering it.

Other Beverages

Espresso: A shot of rich espresso provides a bold contrast to the sweet and creamy apple tart, enhancing the overall flavor experience.
