With all your ingredients and equipment gathered, you are ready to get started!

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 285°F (140°C).
  2. Core the apples and place them in a baking dish.
  3. Insert one cinnamon stick into each apple, and add 1 tablespoon of light brown sugar inside each apple.
  4. Pour the Port wine and rum over the apples, and sprinkle the remaining sugar on top.
  5. If you like, you can also sprinkle some ground cinnamon (optional).
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until the apples begin to crack.
  7. Turn off the oven and leave them inside for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, allowing the liquids to turn into a thick, delicious syrup.
  8. Serve hot or cold.

Recipe Tips

Ensure that the apples are uniformly ripe to avoid uneven cooking. Choose apples that are firm and free from blemishes for the best texture after roasting.
When adding the Port wine and dark rum, consider reducing the liquids in a saucepan over medium heat before adding them to the apples. This will intensify the flavors and create a richer sauce when the apples are roasted.
Avoid overcooking the apples; keep an eye on them during roasting. They should be tender but not mushy. Check for doneness after 30 minutes and adjust the time based on your oven's performance.
