Directions

  1. Combine the water, and sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil for 1 minute.
  2. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  3. In a pitcher, add the white wine and sparkling water, both well chilled.
  4. Add the passion fruit pulp, lightly crushed mint leaves, and the fresh passion fruits cut into quarters.
  5. Once the mixture is very cold, serve.
  6. You can add ice to make the sangria even colder.

Recipe Tips

To enhance the sweetness without overpowering the drink, consider using a simple syrup made with equal parts sugar and water, heated until dissolved. This can be drizzled into the sangria to taste, allowing for better control over the sweetness level.
When preparing the fresh passion fruits, cut them in half and scoop out the pulp. To maximize the flavor, use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently press the pulp to release more juice and aroma before adding it to the sangria.
Avoid adding the sparkling water too early, as it can lose its fizz. Instead, mix the sangria with the sparkling water just before serving to maintain the effervescence and keep the drink refreshing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute the white wine with another type of wine?

Yes, you can substitute white wine with a fruity rosé or even a light-bodied red wine. Just be mindful that it may alter the overall flavor profile of the sangria.

How should I store leftover sangria?

Leftover sangria can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. It's best to avoid adding ice to the sangria before storing, as it can dilute the flavors.

What if I don’t have fresh passion fruits?

If fresh passion fruits are unavailable, you can use canned passion fruit puree or juice as a substitute. Adjust the quantity to match your desired sweetness and flavor intensity.
