Why You Will Love This Recipe

Get ready to savor this tasty orange chicken (frango com laranja)! Juicy chicken legs are marinated in zesty lemon and garlic, then baked with sweet oranges, fresh herbs, and aromatic onions. Pair it with fluffy rice or a crisp salad for a meal that’s perfect for any occasion. This dish is all about bright flavors that will make your dinner a hit!

Tips for Success

For a deeper flavor, marinate the chicken legs in the orange and lemon juice, zest, and crushed garlic for at least 2 hours (or overnight) before cooking. This will help the chicken absorb all the citrus flavors.

When cooking the chicken, start by searing the skin side in a hot skillet with olive oil for 5-7 minutes until crispy before adding the onions and garlic. This ensures the skin gets nice and crispy, adding texture to the dish.

Avoid overcooking the chicken by using a meat thermometer to ensure it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Overcooked chicken can become dry, so monitor the cooking time closely, especially if you're using large legs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I substitute chicken legs with a different part of the chicken?

Yes, you can use chicken thighs or breasts instead. However, cooking times may vary, especially if using breasts as they cook faster than legs or thighs.

How should I store leftovers of this orange chicken?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze it for up to 2 months. Just make sure to thaw it in the refrigerator before reheating.

What can I do if the chicken is undercooked after the recommended cooking time?

If the chicken is undercooked, return it to the oven and continue cooking, checking the internal temperature. It should reach at least 75°C (165°F) to ensure it's safe to eat. You can also cover it with foil to prevent over-browning while it finishes cooking.

Recommended Drink Pairings

  • Sauvignon Blanc: This white wine's acidity complements the citrus notes in the orange chicken.
  • Ginger Ale: The sweetness and spice of ginger ale balance the savory flavors of the dish.
  • Green Tea: Its lightness and subtle bitterness provide a refreshing contrast to the rich chicken.
  • Chardonnay: A lightly oaked Chardonnay enhances the dish with its buttery texture and fruity undertones.
  • Club Soda: The carbonation and neutral flavor cleanse the palate between bites.
